Tech & Care Panel Discussion

The Tech & Care panel discussion is hosted be Valeria Salinas Toro, a creative technologist, producer and visual artist, who is currently an Associate Lecturer at the Creative Code Institute at the University of the Arts London, teaching Computational Environments and a Somerset House Future Producer.

Our panel shows a range of creativity from Camille Baker, George Micah Kuhn, Tilly Cullen and Tommaso Busolo.

Bio

Camille's immersive installation and Virtual Reality artwork focusses on post-reproductive diseases and pain over 40's women experience: endometriosis, fibroids, polyps, ovarian and other cysts, cervical, ovarian, uterine and endometrial cancers.

George's DigiSeal a speculative tamagotchi-like digital pet for type 1 diabetics. The seal's behaviour and appearance reflects the user’s blood glucose. A device that leverages cuteness to force better management, like the robot seal PARO, which is deployed in care homes to help manage patients with dementia.

Tilly's work The Weight of Words challenges the use of sexist language within our daily lives, using a combination of craft and physical computing.

Tommaso Busolo's work with ALMA combines design, technology and anthropology to co-create tools for a radical cultural change in female intimate health. Technology as a tool for provocation but also for knowing one's own body, connecting females and eradicating taboos. The interdisciplinary team developed a participatory methodology to engage womxn around the world and co-design tools to address intimate health needs.

All these works have a relationship with tech and care, the main question of this discussion is how can tech help us care more or help us understand and/or experience other people's experiences?
